Why take vitamin and/or mineral supplements? Don't we get a sufficient nutrient intake from food?

Food is extremely important, so a varied and balanced diet, combined with regular physical activity, is undoubtedly the best way to stay fit and healthy. However, in situations of increased need for nutrients (for example, in the case of children at the stage of growth, of women during menstruation, pregnancy, breast-feeding, of elderly or in general of all people who have undergone periods of stress, overwork and fatigue caused by intense physical activity or sports) or in the case of an unbalanced diet, it can be VERY useful to supplement your diet with vitamins, minerals or other nutrients.
